Meet the Catalyst Home Services Team

When someone comes to your home, you want to know who they are and whether they actually know what they’re doing. That’s the whole point of this page. Every engineer at Catalyst Home Services is qualified for the work they carry out, Gas Safe registered where that applies, and known to us — not a subcontractor we’ve never met. If you’d like to book one of our team, you can do that directly.

Who’s Actually Going to Turn Up

A lot of plumbing companies operate as a booking platform — you call a central number, and whoever’s free in your area gets sent out. Sometimes that’s a direct employee, sometimes it’s a subcontractor with their own arrangements, their own standards, and their own way of doing things.

We don’t work that way. Our team is built around a core group of engineers who’ve worked together for years, supported by a small number of trusted specialists for specific jobs — gas servicing, larger drainage surveys, and bigger installation projects. Everyone who comes to your door has been vetted by us, knows our standards, and is accountable to us if something isn’t right.

The team covers four broad areas of work, each introduced below:

What Each Team Actually Does

The Repair Team

This is the team most people meet first, because most calls start with something going wrong. A leak under the sink, a tap that won’t stop dripping, a toilet that’s stopped flushing properly. Our repair engineers are trained to diagnose the actual cause rather than just treat the obvious symptom — which matters, because a quick fix on the wrong problem just means you’re calling again in a month.

Who needs this team: Homeowners with a leak, a broken fitting, or low water pressure; landlords responding to a tenant’s maintenance request; anyone who’s noticed damp, a strange noise from the pipes, or a fitting that’s stopped working.

The Drainage Team

Drainage work is its own specialism. It involves equipment most people have never seen — CCTV cameras on rods, high-pressure jetting machines, and the experience to read what a camera survey is actually showing you. Our drainage team carries this equipment as standard, which means a blocked drain call can often be diagnosed and cleared in the same visit.

Who needs this team: Anyone with a slow or blocked drain, landlords who need a survey before a tenancy ends or begins, buyers wanting to check a property’s drainage before purchase, anyone dealing with recurring blockages that keep coming back.

The Installation Team

Fitting work rewards patience and experience in equal measure. A bathroom that looks straightforward can throw up problems the moment old pipework is exposed. Our installation team has handled enough of these jobs to anticipate the common issues — and enough new builds to know how to work cleanly alongside other trades on site.

Who needs this team: Homeowners planning a bathroom renovation or replacing a water heater, developers needing first and second fix plumbing on new builds, anyone replacing old pipework that’s reaching the end of its life.

The Specialist and Commercial Team

This is our most qualified group, and the one with the strictest compliance requirements. Anyone working on gas appliances in the UK must be Gas Safe registered — it’s a legal requirement, not a nice-to-have — and our specialist engineers hold this registration. They also handle commercial contracts, where the regulatory environment and the tolerance for disruption are both different from domestic work, and they staff our emergency line around the clock.

Who needs this team: Anyone needing boiler servicing or repair, offices and commercial premises needing plumbing work during or outside trading hours, anyone with an emergency outside normal working hours.

Why It Matters Who’s Holding the Spanner

In the UK, plumbing as a trade isn’t regulated the way some other professions are. There’s no single licence you need to call yourself a plumber, which means the title alone tells you very little. What does tell you something is whether the person in front of you holds the specific qualifications and registrations that the job actually requires.

For gas work, that’s Gas Safe registration — a legal requirement, checkable on the Gas Safe Register, and something every one of our gas engineers carries on an ID card they should show you without being asked twice. For water systems, our team is trained to current Water Regulations, covering things like backflow prevention and approved fittings near drinking water supplies.

We’ve put together a dedicated page covering our licences and certifications in detail, including registration numbers where relevant, because we’d rather you check than simply trust a logo on a van.

Beyond formal qualifications, our team has built up something harder to certify: experience with London’s housing stock specifically. Victorian terraces, post-war conversions, new-build flats, period properties with original lead pipework — each comes with its own quirks, and our engineers have worked on all of them.

Who Our Team Works With Day to Day

Homeowners. Most of our work is residential — people dealing with a problem in their own home, or planning improvements. Our team is used to working in occupied homes, which means being tidy, respectful of the space, and clear about what’s happening and when.

Landlords. A significant part of our team’s week involves rented properties, often coordinated through letting agents. We understand the compliance side — Landlord Gas Safety Records, water hygiene, and the kind of documentation agents and tenants expect. Our residential AMC plans are designed around this.

Commercial clients. Offices, restaurants, and retail premises have different needs — work often has to happen around trading hours, and documentation requirements are usually stricter. Our specialist team is set up for this, including under our commercial AMC arrangements.

Developers and contractors. For new builds and larger refurbishments, our installation team works as part of a wider site operation, fitting around other trades and site schedules rather than working in isolation.

What to Expect When Our Team Arrives

1. You’ll know who’s coming. When you book, we’ll confirm which engineer is assigned and give you an arrival window. Our vehicles are marked, and our engineers carry ID.

2. They’ll assess before they start. For anything beyond a quick repair, the engineer will look at the job, explain what they’ve found, and confirm the plan before any work begins.

3. You’ll get a price in writing. No work starts on a quote you haven’t seen and agreed to. If something unexpected turns up once work is underway — which does happen, particularly with older pipework — you’ll be told before it’s actioned, not after.

4. The work gets done to the standard the job requires. Whether that’s a five-minute tap repair or a multi-day re-pipe, the same standard applies: proper materials, correct method, and a tidy finish.

5. They’ll leave it as they found it — minus the problem. Dust sheets down, mess cleared up, old parts removed.

6. Paperwork follows where it’s needed. Gas Safe certificates are issued the same day. For larger jobs, you’ll get a written summary of what was done, which is useful if you ever need to refer back to it — for a warranty claim, for example, or when selling the property.

What Sets This Team Apart

There’s nothing particularly glamorous about good plumbing work — it’s mostly about turning up, doing the job correctly, and not cutting corners that cause problems later. That’s genuinely most of it. A few specific things our customers mention:

  • Continuity. Our core team has worked together for years. You’re not getting a different unknown contractor every time.
  • Verifiable credentials. Gas Safe registration and Water Regulations training aren’t just claimed — see our licences and certifications page.
  • Straight answers. If something doesn’t need fixing yet, our engineers will tell you that, even if it means a smaller job.

FAQs

Are your plumbers directly employed or subcontractors?

Our core team is made up of engineers who work with us regularly and are vetted to our standards — not an unknown pool of subcontractors. For specialist or high-volume periods, we do work with a small number of trusted additional engineers, but they meet the same qualification and conduct standards as our core team.

Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?

Yes, where the work requires it. Any engineer carrying out gas work — boiler servicing, gas appliance installation or repair — is Gas Safe registered, and is required by UK law to be so. You’re entitled to ask to see their Gas Safe ID card before work begins, and you can verify registration on the official Gas Safe Register website.

Can I request the same engineer for repeat work?

In most cases, yes — particularly for landlords or AMC customers with ongoing maintenance needs. We’ll do our best to keep the same engineer assigned to a property where it’s practical, since familiarity with a property’s quirks genuinely speeds things up.

Do your engineers carry ID?

Yes. All engineers carry identification and arrive in marked vehicles. If you’re ever unsure, you can call our office directly to confirm who’s been sent before letting anyone in.

What training does your team have beyond Gas Safe registration?

Our team is trained to current Water Regulations standards for plumbing and water system work, and individual engineers hold additional qualifications relevant to their specialism — for example, drainage engineers are trained on CCTV survey and jetting equipment, and our installation team has specific experience with bathroom fitting and new build first-fix.

How experienced is your team?

Our core engineers have a combined total of well over a decade of hands-on plumbing experience across London. Rather than rotating through unfamiliar engineers, our customers tend to deal with the same small group of people over repeated jobs.

Will the same person handle my quote and the actual work?

Usually, yes. For most jobs, the engineer who assesses the work is the one who carries it out, which avoids the back-and-forth of explaining the problem twice and keeps the quote accurate to what’s actually needed.

What happens if I’m not happy with the work?

Tell us. If something we’ve done hasn’t been completed properly, we’ll come back and put it right — that’s part of how we operate, not an exception. Our reviews and testimonials page reflects how this generally goes, but if something’s wrong, the first step is always to call us.
